Baby girl with mermaid syndrome - Amazing Birth Defect

Peruvian doctor Miguel Rubio watches as Milagros Cerron plays with her foot during a rehabilitation therapy session in a municipal hospital in Lima, Peru on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006. Milagros, who is now a year and eight months old, was born with a rare congenital defect known as sirenomelia, or "mermaid syndrome" and had surgery in June, 2005 to separate her fused legs. The deformity occurs in one out of every 70,000 births and there are only three known cases of children with the affliction alive in the world today.
